Canada—British Columbia partnership creates jobs, stimulates economy in mission
March 01, 2010
MISSION – Campers in Mission and the surrounding area will benefit from federal and provincial infrastructure funding for upgrades to Florence Lake Forest Service Road.

This project is just one example of both governments’ commitment to stimulate the British Columbia economy through the creation of jobs in our communities.

Florence Lake Forest Service Road upgrades will improve access to the existing Zajac Ranch for Children as well as Florence Lake, the proposed site for a $15 million Tim Horton’s Children’s Camp. Upgrades will also provide year-round access to buses, camp vehicles, commercial and public drivers.

“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Stephen Harper, our Government is getting shovels in the ground and flowing money faster to stimulate the economy and create jobs for British Columbians,” says Pitt Meadows-Maple Ridge-Mission MP Randy Kamp. “As we enter the second phase of Canada’s Economic Action Plan, our government’s priority will be to continue its rapid implementation of projects, so that we can continue to build a strong economy for the future.”

“This road will improve access to recreational and camp projects as well as for the proposed Tim Horton’s Children’s Camp,” says Maple Ridge-Mission MLA Marc Dalton. “This funding will pay for necessary improvements and bridge replacements from Dewdney Trunk Road to the acclaimed Zajac Ranch. Not only will this project employ local people, it will also open up the backcountry for everyone to enjoy safely.”

The Governments of Canada and British Columbia will each invest up to $510,000 in the project.

This project is one of 15 across the province that will break ground thanks to close to $35.4 million in joint federal and provincial funding. The Governments of Canada and British Columbia have taken steps to get shovels in the ground and to flow money faster for targeted infrastructure projects starting in the 2010 construction season.
