MISSION - Road resurfacing work is about to begin on HWY 7 from Murray Street to Dewdney Trunk Road, improving riding comfort and road quality.
“The Government of Canada is committed to getting shovels in the ground, stimulating the economy and creating jobs for British Columbians," says Pitt Meadows--Maple Ridge--Mission MP Randy Kamp. “Working together with the BC government, we can build the infrastructure that will help the economy to thrive now and in the future.”
“Lougheed Highway is the main roadway in Mission and it is critical that we improve this section to ensure that drivers and pedestrians have a safe and comfortable road to travel on,” says Abbotsford-Mission MLA Randy Hawes.
The $1.67 million contract has been awarded to Martens Asphalt Ltd. To minimize disruption to traffic, work will be restricted to early mornings and evenings with no work on Sundays. This project is expected to begin in May 2010 and complete in August 2010.
The federal contribution to this project comes from the $4-billion Infrastructure Stimulus Fund, which provides funding to provincial, territorial and municipal construction-ready infrastructure projects. Since March 2009, almost 400 projects have received a total federal investment of over $490 million under the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund across British Columbia.
Since October 2008, over $5.3 billion has been committed for accelerated capital projects across British Columbia, which is estimated to generate more than 34,000 construction jobs over the life of the projects.
