Recreational Infrastructure Canada Program applications now being accepted in British Columbia
May 11, 2009
11 May 2009 – Applications for projects in Pitt Meadows, Maple Ridge and Mission are now being accepted under the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program for upgrades and repairs to local hockey rinks, swimming pools, sport fields and other recreational sites. Project proposals are due by May 29, 2009 and projects needing more time to develop have until June 19, 2009.

"Our Conservative Government's investment in the Recreational Infrastructure Canada program will help put Canadians to work, encourage greater participation in physical activity and use of recreational facilities," said Randy Kamp, Member of Parliament for Pitt Meadows—Maple Ridge—Mission.  "Through RInC, we are helping to ensure that communities across Canada have access to essential infrastructure today and in the future."

Under RInC, the Conservative Government will provide up to one-third of total eligible costs, with a maximum project contribution of $1 million toward projects that will be completed by March 31, 2011.

The initial funding allocation under RInC for the BC is $23 million.  Projects will be selected on the basis of merit and construction readiness.

The Recreational Infrastructure Canada Program is part of the Conservative Government's Economic Action Plan; a multi-faceted plan that is providing needed stimulus funding to ensure a quick recovery from the current economic downturn.
