INCREASED FUNDING FOR CANADA SUMMER JOBS PROGRAM TO BENEFIT PITT MEADOWS—MAPLE RIDGE—MISSION.

27 May 2009 – Randy Kamp, MP is pleased to announce that the federal government is investing more money to support young Canadians. Students in Pitt Meadows—Maple Ridge—Mission will be eligible for more funding through the Canada Summer Jobs initiative. Canada’s Economic Action Plan contains increased funding for Canada Summer Jobs of $20 million over the next two years. This will help employers, particularly not-for-profit organizations, create a greater number of job opportunities for students during the current economic downturn. “I am pleased to see that students in our communities will be able to benefit from quality summer job opportunities right here at home,” says Randy Kamp, MP for Pitt Meadows—Maple Ridge—Mission. “These projects benefit local organizations and small businesses and also provide students with great work experience.” With the additional funding, the Government of Canada will now make a total of $107.5M available annually through Canada Summer Jobs for the next two years. Canada Summer Jobs is a Government of Canada initiative that provides funding to help employers create summer job opportunities for students. The initiative is designed to focus on local priorities, while achieving tangible results for both students and their communities. This year, funding through Canada Summer Jobs in Mission, Maple Ridge, and Pitt Meadows will allow approximately 43 organizations to create approximately 99 summer job opportunities for students. This is an increase of $65,000 over last year’s funding for a total of $322,890. “Our government is assisting students get the work experience they need to fully participate in the job market,” says Kamp. “In light of the current economy, it is important that we help our students. This means the creation of more jobs for students, as well as preparing them for the workforce, through experience and learning opportunities across the country.” |
