Government of Canada Invests in Mission Recreational Facilities
September 23, 2009

MISSION, BC
– Randy Kamp, Member of Parliament for Pitt Meadows—Maple Ridge—Mission, on behalf of the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, has announced federal funding to rebuild the lacrosse box in Centennial Park in Mission. Funding for this investment is being provided under the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program, a major job creating investment from Canada’s Economic Action Plan.

“Our Government’s investment in the Recreational Infrastructure Canada program is creating jobs for Canadians, while encouraging greater participation in physical education and the use of recreational facilities,” said Kamp.  “Investing in these lacrosse and parks facilities will help the government stimulate the economy and enhance services for local families.”

This project will improve the lacrosse facilities at Centennial Park, including the replacement of posts, boards, fences and player boxes.  New asphalt paving will also be installed, and a permanent washroom will be created to replace the current portable facilities.

“I would like to thank our MP, Randy Kamp, for his government’s assistance in providing much needed recreational facilities in the District of Mission, specifically to help in a complete rebuilding of the Centennial Park lacrosse box,” said District of Mission Mayor, James Atebe. “This project and the building of a public washroom in Centennial Park will enhance services for all Mission residents.”

The Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) program will invest $500 million in recreational facilities across Canada over a two-year period. It will provide a temporary economic stimulus that will help reduce the impacts of the global recession while renewing, upgrading and expanding recreational infrastructure in Canadian communities.

RInC is part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan, the Government of Canada’s multi-faceted stimulus plan that will ensure a quick recovery from the current economic downturn. Western Economic Diversification Canada is delivering the initiative in the four western provinces.
