Prime Minister Stephen Harper recognizes Canada’s Olympic and Paralympic Athletes
April 22, 2010
OTTAWA – Prime Minister Stephen Harper today congratulated Canadian athletes and coaches on their remarkable accomplishments at the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.  The Olympic and Paralympic Teams were officially recognized on Parliament Hill and lauded for their performances at Canada’s most successful Winter Games ever.

“I sincerely congratulate all of our Canadian athletes and coaches.  They are our best ambassadors for sport and for Canada.  Canadian athletes are an enormous source of pride for our country,” said the Prime Minister.  “Canada’s team delivered many outstanding and inspiring performances during the Games.  Canadians across the country were united in cheering them on as they toppled record after record.”

After being recognized in the House of Commons, the medal-winning athletes were each presented a Canadian flag that had flown on Parliament Hill during the 2010 Winter Games.

”For three weeks, Canada was awash in red and white,” said the Prime Minister.  “In recognition of their accomplishments, it is more than fitting to honour our Olympians with Canada’s flag.”

The Games brought together all Canadians from coast to coast to coast by celebrating our passion for sport, our pride in Canada’s athletes and our culture.
