There are three different processes for applying for a Canadian Passport:
- Adult Passport Application: for all adults over the age of 16 years who were born in Canada, or currently have Canadian citizenship. Please fill out the “Adult General Passport Application.”
- Simplified Renewal Application: if you have a Canadian Passport that expired within the last year, and is not damaged in any way, has never been reported lost or stolen, and you were at least 16 years of age when it was issued you may take part in the simplified renewal process. Please fill out the “Adult Simplified Renewal Passport Application.”
- Child Passport Application: for all Canadians under 16 years of age who were born in Canada, or currently have Canadian Citizenship. Please fill out the “Child General Passport Application.”
Things to Bring:
- ORIGINAL birth certificate, or Canadian Citizenship Card.
- Secondary ID, such as drivers licences, Social Insurance Card, Health Card or Old Age Security Card
- Credit card, or certified cheque made out to “the Receiver General for Canada” ($87 for adult, $37 for child under 16 years)
- Names, full mailing addresses and phone numbers of two people (not related to you) who have known you for at least 2 years.
- Two passport photos (or if you are attending a Passport Clinic, there will be a photographer on-site to take photos for an additional cost)
- We are unable to provide a guarantor. A guarantor is anyone with a valid Canadian Passport over the age of 18 years, who has known you personally for at least two years. A guarantor can be a family member as long as he or she meets the other requirements listed here.
We are a passport receiving office, working on behalf of Passport Canada. Passports are not processed in our office. Wait times are generally 4 to 5 weeks, and passports and original documents are mailed back directly to your address via certified mail.
If you are in a rush, the passport offices in Surrey and in Vancouver offer faster turn-around times. An additional fee may be levied depending on how quickly you need your passport processed.
