Dear Constituent,
There’s been a lot of interest in the Home Renovation Tax Credit so I've put information at the bottom of this newsletter about how you can benefit from it.
I'd also like to let you know about some of the actions our Conservative Government is taking to keep our streets safe.
Just last month our Government renewed our National Strategy to combat sexual exploitation of kids through the internet by giving law enforcers the tools they need to track down internet sexual predators.
We're also working to ensure that serious crimes get serious penalties by strengthening laws in key areas such as youth crime, organized crime, and gang violence.
If you have any questions or wish to share your thoughts, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me.
Regards,

The Home Renovation Tax Credit |
Here's how it works: This credit will provide a one-year, temporary 15% income tax credit on eligible home renovation expenditures for work done or goods acquired before February 1, 2010. The credit can be claimed on eligible expenditures exceeding $1,000 but no more than $10,000.
The first $1,000 receives no credit but anything over $1,000 and below $10,000 is eligible to receive 15% back in tax credit. The maximum benefit is therefore 15% of $9,000; or $1,350. The credit can be applied to renovations to a home or a cottage.
Some common projects that are eligible for the Home Renovation Tax Credit include Renovating a Kitchen or Bathroom, Finishing a basement, Installing new carpet or flooring, Replacing a furnace or AC unit, or Building an addition.
Routine repairs and the purchase of tools or appliances do not qualify. Only one Home Renovation Tax Credit claim can be made per family but family members can share the credit. For more information - click here. |
Taking Strong Action to Fight Crime |
Protecting Children from Sexual Exploitation: Our government knows the importance of combating online victimization; especially when kids are involved. Our National Strategy is fighting child victimization by increasing our ability to track down online predators, raising public awareness, and supporting research in this field. For more information - click here.
Tackling Crime: Prime Minister Harper's strategy is to take tough action in target areas like gang violence, youth crime, and criminal organizations. Canadians need to be assured that justice will be served, and that it will be served swiftly. For more information - click here. |
