Government of Canada Creates Summer Jobs in Pitt Meadows—Maple Ridge—Mission
June 15, 2011

More Pitt Meadows—Maple Ridge—Mission students will have an opportunity to gain valuable work experience and earn money for the upcoming school year thanks to the Canada Summer Jobs program that will create 36,000 jobs across the country.

“Our Government has received a strong mandate from Canadians to continue creating jobs and economic growth,” said Randy Kamp, MP for Pitt Meadows—Maple Ridge—Mission. “That’s why, starting in 2011, we have permanently increased the budget for the Canada Summer Jobs initiative by $10 million. The additional funding will create as many as 3,500 additional jobs for students this summer across Canada, strengthening the local economies of our communities.”

This year in our area, approximately 47 agreements will be signed with employers. Pitt Meadows—Maple Ridge—Mission will receive around $328,000 in Canada Summer Jobs funding, which will enable approximately 90 students to gain the skills and experience they need to compete in today’s labor market.

“Canada Summer Jobs benefits our community, our local economy and especially the students of Pitt Meadows—Maple Ridge—Mission,” added Kamp. “Through this initiative and others, our Government is helping Canada’s youth succeed now and in the future.”

Canada Summer Jobs is an important part of the government’s long-term Youth Employment Strategy that helps young people get the information, skills and work experience they need to make a successful transition to the workplace.
