On Wednesday, September 15, 2010, Randy Kamp, MP for Pitt Meadows – Maple Ridge – Mission will host a free seminar aimed at helping seniors avoid some of the most common telemarketing and internet scams. The Seminar on Preventing Identity Theft and Fraud will take place from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at the Ridge Meadows Seniors Activity Centre in Maple Ridge.
Mr. Kamp is pleased to offer seniors three experts on this subject: an official from the BC Privacy Commissioner’s office, an RCMP Corporal who specializes in telemarketing scams, and a local IT business owner. Topics will include:
protecting your privacy on-line
how to avoid identity theft
recognizing telemarketing scams
safe browsing practices
safe on-line purchasing practices
recognizing appropriate ways that personal information can legally be collected on-line
